This road connects many other departments or towns that are part of Bolivia, such as Coroico, San Pablo community, San Pedro de la Loma, Carmen pampa and many others located in the Bolivian jungle.

The Death Road, only has access to a single lane, making it very difficult for heavy load vehicles to pass each other in these sections. Additionally, the weather on this route is quite rainy, as it is located in the Bolivian jungle.

Because of these reasons, there were many accidents involving vehicles carrying people; the buses could fall a distance of no less than 700m. and there was almost no way for anyone to survive such a fatal accident.

In 2007, another dual-lane road was built, safer for traveling to the mentioned communities.
