The Stone of the 12 Angles and the Inca Wall

This place is one of the most visited by tourists in Cusco. It is located on Hatun Rumiyoq street, two blocks from the main square. The stone of the 12 angles is an Inca support wall for the Inca Roca Palace, which took power in the fourteenth century. This building now belongs to the Archbishop’s Palace,

This stone has the 12 perfectly carved angles that denote the Incas’ perfectionist architecture. Next to this place, you will also be able to appreciate a person disguised as the Inca Pachactec, and you can take a nice picture next to the stone of the 12 angles.

All of the works are inspired by the ancient cultures of the Inca, Moche, Nazca, Chavin, and Tiawanaco, and it is also one of the most bohemian areas in Cusco, with narrow and steep streets lined with old houses built on Inca and Hispanic foundations and colonial urban design.

The oldest church in Cuzco, dating from 1563, is in San Blas, next to the main square of the neighborhood. This church has the most decorated and carved pulpit.

The main square of Cusco (the Historical Center)

The Plaza de Armas of Cusco was an important place in the days of the Incas. This place was the scene of important events in the history of Cusco, such as the proclamation of Peruvian independence in 1814 and the scene of the dismemberment of Tupac Amaru II, the first leader of the Andean resistance.

Today, the main square of Cusco is a place of many festivals, such as the festival of the sun, Inti Raymi, the religious festival of Corpus Cristi, and a New Year’s party where everyone gathers to receive the new year.

Inti Raymi Sun Festival (June 24)

A small but important fact about the festival of the sun is that this festival is a tradition that transcended time to the present. Every June 24, this activity is celebrated starting at the Qoricancha, or temple of the sun, passing through the Plaza de Armas, used as a stage for performing your ceremony, with dances and songs, where it ends with a black llama sacrifice in the Inca ruins of Sacsayhuaman, located in the upper part of the city of Cusco at 3400 meters above sea level.
